Declare Medaram Jatara as National Festival says Telangana Govt. Telangana state BJP leaders, led by its president K Lakshman and party's national general secretary Muralidhar Rao, met several Union Ministers here on Friday urging them to declare Sammakka-Saralakka (Medaram) Jatara a national festival.

The Telangana government will pitch with the Central government for according the biannual tribal festival of Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara at Medaram, a national festival status. A State delegation led by Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy will meet Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on January 2 in this regard.

The biannual festival — Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara — is Asia’s biggest tribal festival, which will be conducted in Medaram. This time, the Jatara will start on January 31 and conclude on February 2.

The national festival status will help get more funds for development and arrangements for the festival on permanent basis. Stating that Medaram jatara would soon acquire global proportion going by the increasing popularity and patronage, the government should declare it as a national festival.

The jatara which was basically known to be a tribal fair was also being attended by members of all the communities, castes and religions. He said that the State government has recognised the tribal fair as State festival.

Medaram Jatara App Launched:

State government released a Route Map App — Medaram Guide — for the convenience of devotees. The route map would be useful to those who come to Medaram, Indrakaran Reddy said.
